ok first of all, 616 magneto has never, aside from a few times that are nearly all considered extremely OOC or retconned away, has never wanted to completely eradicate the human race. he operates under the belief that mutant/human equality will never happen through discourse or mutant heroics, and that the only way to prevent a mutant holocaust is to make the first move and use force. his plans range between world domination (NOT genocide) or simply creating a safe haven for mutants. he generally only kills or threatens to kill nazi’s, racists, anti-mutant supremacists, and world leaders, and goes out of his way to avoid civilian casualties. he’s also very aware that most mutants are born from humans, and eradication would eliminate the parents and grandkids of who knows how many future mutants.
a lot of the misconceptions about magneto’s anti-human policies comes from the OOC characterizations in the man comic continuity, many au comics where he’s legitimately genocidal (especially the ultimate universe’s version) and the stupid fox movies which have shat all over his character and backstory. 616 magneto does bad things but he legitimately believes he’s preventing genocide, and thanks to all the time travel that goes on in comics we know his fears are valid. magneto is a tragic, sympathetic, complex anti-hero (often turned more-or-less hero) and reducing him to being a genocidal mutant equivalent to hitler like many do is insulting to the character and what he stands for.
also sometimes its just fun for minorities to make joakes about wiping their oppressors off the face of the earth

even the movie where the villain was an actual nazi via the first x-men:first class movie cause remember Sebastian Shaw was nazi
don’t think for one second that it has not played a massive role into the whole Erik/Magneto is horrible monster who wants to kill everyone
